I think that freedom of speech is essential to a successful country and society in general. When there is a restriction on a thing that almost every human can do then there is no real way to restrain it. I think that the only way that anyone can try and silence a person's right to speak is to help prevent chaos and violence. The one example that comes to mind is yelling fire in a crowed theater, this act needs to be punished because it can and will insight fear and chaos among the people near the person yelling fire.
I agree and disagree with this article about canada's ban on lying in the news. I think that the news needs to be unfiltered and must inform the listener/reader of current events, but at the same time all the news dosent need to be told to the general public. If there are thirty cyber attacks on the CIA's mainframe and and they were all fended off, it would cause people to get paranoid or scared that one time the attack will end up happening and cripple the USA. So i agree that the news needs to be told and not changed to fit the "ideal views" of the people giving the news, but all the news doesn't need to be told because some of that news could cause fear and chaos in the public which could lead to riots and civil unrest.
